How to Say "Help" in Morse Code?

Looking for the exact help in Morse code? The pattern for the English word HELP is: .... . .-.. .--.

That's H, E, L, P, with a single space between letters. If you want to hear or generate the beeps/blinks, play the audio above, then practice the rhythm on your own.

If you need to say "help me" in Morse code, add ME after a 7-unit word gap: .... . .-.. .--. / -- ..

Letter-by-Letter Breakdown

Put together: .... . .-.. .--.

How to Send It

Flashlight

Dots are quick blinks; dashes are 3× longer. Keep a steady tempo.

Whistle/Horn

Short vs. long holds create a clear contrast in noisy environments.

Tapping

Tap-tap-tap-tap (H), tap (E), tap–tap–tap–tap with spacing (L), tap–tap–tap (P).

Radio / Key

Send at a comfortable speed, repeat the word, follow with your location.

Note: In a true life-threatening emergency, the universal distress call is SOS (... --- ...) as it is more widely recognized.

Timing Rules

Dot = 1 unit
Dash = 3 units
Within a letter = 1 unit pause
Between letters = 3 units pause
Between words = 7 units pause

So you'd send .... (H), pause 3 units, . (E), pause 3 units, .-.. (L), pause 3 units, .--. (P).

Troubleshooting

Uneven dashes

Dashes must be exactly three times a dot. If they're too short, L (.-..) and P (.--.) can blur together.

Skipping gaps

Without the 3-unit letter gap, letters run together. Count "one-two-three" between letters.

Speeding too early

Accuracy beats speed; increase tempo only after your spacing is clean.

2-Minute Practice Plan

1

Listen & Echo

Generate .... . .-.. .--. using the audio player above, then immediately repeat.

2

Chunk It

Practice H, then E, then L, then P before running the full word.

3

Write It Out

On paper, mark H | E | L | P to train the 3-unit letter gap in your brain.
